At 01:27 PM today, the report was endorsed by MEA cum China’s official news agency Xinhua. Just a week before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China, Doklam standoff termination took place. While China has confirmed that it will continue its sovereignty rights. This recital gave birth to headlines ‘China claims victory over India in Himalayan border row’. Dispute actually lies between, Beijing and Bhutan. Since India’s support to Bhutan’s claim of the plateau, there was a faceoff between China and India. This case took another form when Indian Soldiers obstructed Chinese troops from extending roads on Doklam. This plateau is a junction between China and the north-eastern Indian state of Sikkim and the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan which is known as Doklam in India and Donglang in China.
Doklam Standoff Ends, Peaceful Conditions In Himalayan region
MEA a few hours back, before this issue was in headlines earlier today, quoted “In recent weeks, India and China have maintained diplomatic communication in respect of the incident at Doklam. During these communications, we were able to express our views and convey our concerns and interests. On this basis, expeditious disengagement of border personnel at the face-off site in Doklam has been agreed-to and is ongoing.”
Who’s the winner at the end, China or India?
Retweets and comments of Indians and Chinese general public people apparently states this verdict is healthy for both the countries. Another Indian comment so received was ‘Though it appears to be a victory to India. Thank heavens that both sides showed restraint and de-escalated the situation. Any escalation would have done no good to either side and both would have slipped a few years of progress and continued the mutual destruction. So, in essence, it is a victory to the mission of progress of both China and India!!!’
